Terms of Service
The agreement between you and Thromblo Creates for playing AwayWard.
Last updated: July 15, 2026
1. Acceptance of these terms
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the AwayWard game and its online services, and this website, all provided by Thromblo Creates ("I", "me"). By downloading, installing or playing AwayWard, or by using this site, you agree to these Terms and to the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the game or this site.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country) to play. If you are a minor in your jurisdiction, you should review these Terms with a parent or guardian.
3. Your identity and device
AwayWard does not use passwords. Your online profile is tied to a device identifier and a secret access token generated by the game and held on your device; that token authorizes online writes, including cloud saves. You are responsible for activity that occurs under your device and for any name, @handle or content you choose. Keep your device and its save private; anyone who obtains your access token can act as your online profile. If you enable cloud saving or link a Discord account, you are responsible for keeping access to those linked accounts secure.
4. License to play
Subject to these Terms, I grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and play AwayWard for your own non-commercial entertainment. You may not sell, rent, reverse engineer (except where that right cannot be excluded by law), or redistribute the game except by sharing the unmodified official build with a friend.
5. Conduct and fair play
You agree not to:
- Cheat, exploit bugs for unfair advantage, automate play with bots, or tamper with saves or network traffic to falsify stats.
- Attack, overload, probe or attempt to gain unauthorized access to my servers, or circumvent rate limits and other protections.
- Choose names, handles, clan tags, house names or other content that is unlawful, hateful, harassing, sexually explicit, impersonating, or otherwise offensive.
- Harass, abuse or harm other players.
- Use the game or its services for any unlawful purpose.
I use automated filtering and may review shared content. I may remove content, reset or adjust online records, and suspend or terminate access for violations.
6. User-generated content
Content you create and share through online features (such as your display name, @handle, clan name and published house layout) remains associated with you, but you grant Thromblo Creates a worldwide, royalty-free license to host, display and distribute it within the game's social features so they can function. You are responsible for the content you share, and I may remove content that violates these Terms.
7. Virtual items and purchases
- AwayWard is free to play. Any purchase is cosmetic or convenience only. You cannot buy power, gold, or gacha luck, and purchases never affect the fairness of the shared economy or the leaderboard.
- The Android build is ad-supported. A one-time in-app purchase removes the ads; it is a convenience purchase that grants no gameplay advantage. The desktop builds are not ad-supported.
- Virtual items, cosmetics, currencies and supporter perks have no monetary value, cannot be exchanged for real money, and are licensed to you, not owned.
- Purchases are processed by third-party platforms (for example Patreon, Steam, itch.io, Google Play or the Apple App Store) under their own terms. Refund eligibility is governed by that platform and by applicable law.
- I may add, change, retire or rebalance items and features over time. I aim to preserve cosmetics you have unlocked, but availability of any specific item is not guaranteed.
8. Online services and the trust model
The online layer is cooperative and asynchronous, with no real-time player-versus-player combat. Because the game is client-authoritative, the server cannot fully verify reported stats. I therefore bound inputs and may correct, reset or remove records (including leaderboard, ladder, faction and season standings) to preserve fairness, with no compensation for adjusted standings. Online services may change, be interrupted, or be discontinued. Offline Mode remains available regardless of the online services.
Cloud saving and cross-play. Cloud saving and linking a Discord account to carry one hero across the game and my Discord bot are optional conveniences you enable yourself. They rely on my API and its hosting, are offered "as is" and "as available", and are not a guaranteed or archival backup: a cloud save may fail to upload, be delayed, be lost, or be superseded by a save from another linked device, and the service may change or be discontinued. Keep your own copies of anything you cannot afford to lose. If you sync the same hero from more than one place, the game may need you to choose which save to keep, and the copy you do not keep can be overwritten. Discord linking is also subject to Discord's own terms, and you may disable cloud saving or unlink Discord at any time.
9. Use of AI models
AwayWard and this website are created with AI-assisted development using OpenAI's GPT-5.6 family and Anthropic's Claude family of models for coding and creative production. The game and its backend do not send your personal or gameplay data to AI models during play. See the Privacy Policy for details.
10. Beta software
While AwayWard is in beta, the game may contain bugs, may change significantly, and online data may be reset. Beta supporters may receive a durable cosmetic entitlement as described in the game and the Privacy Policy. Beta builds are provided for testing and feedback.
11. Disclaimers
AwayWard and this website are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, merchantability and non-infringement, to the fullest extent permitted by law. I do not warrant that the game will be uninterrupted, error-free or secure, or that online data will never be lost.
12. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Thromblo Creates will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, progress, virtual items or profits, arising out of or related to your use of the game or this site. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid me, if any, in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these Terms limits rights that cannot be limited under applicable law.
13. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Thromblo Creates from claims arising out of your breach of these Terms, your content, or your misuse of the game or services, to the extent permitted by law.
14. Termination
You may stop using the game at any time and delete your local save. I may suspend or terminate access if you violate these Terms or to protect the game and its players. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination (such as the disclaimers and limitation of liability) will survive.
15. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States of America, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. You agree to submit to the jurisdiction of the competent courts of the United States for any disputes, subject to any mandatory consumer protections in your own country of residence.
16. Changes to these terms
These Terms are subject to change. AwayWard is in active development, and its features and online services, including cloud saving and cross-play, may be added to, changed or removed, so I may update these Terms to match the current build. I will revise the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, give notice through the game or the community channels. Continued play after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
17. Contact
Questions about these Terms: use the contact form or reach Thromblo Creates in the official Discord server.
These Terms are provided in good faith as a starting point. They are not legal advice. Before relying on them for a commercial launch, have them reviewed by qualified counsel for your jurisdiction.
